What to know before you go!

Conference Expectations:

• The expectation is every student is either in a competition, helping with a competition, or attending breakout sessions.
  • This means they are NOT congregating in hallways, ballrooms, doorways, etc.
• Students should not be laying down in hallways, walking around with blankets, or in house shoes.

Statement of Originality Forms:

• Make sure every event has a statement of originality form turned in by your conference.
• Children's Literature competitions statement of originality forms should be with their book. You can locate these forms in the national guidelines.

Pre-Scoring

• We do not prescore for the area conference. All competition materials must be presented to judges during competition times, in order to receive points. Any section on the rubric that states prescoring must be presented to judges-speeches, videos, lesson plans, resumes, etc. 

Originality Pre-Submission

• Originality pre-submitted materials are NOT SCORED. These materials are submitted in case there is a score discrepancy after judging has taken place for summary sheets in Interactive Bulletin Board, Project Visualize, and Teacher Created Materials.
• This is not required, just an option, in case a question arises.
• Originality Pre-Submissions are due the day before your conference

Dress Code and Dress Code Forms:

• The TAFE dress code will be linked on your conference link tree.
  • Students need to be in solid black, navy blue or khaki pants, skirts, and dresses. 
    • NO COLORED DRESSES OR PANT SUITES/ROMPERS BESIDES BLACK, NAVY BLUE AND KAHAKI COLORED
  • Students need to be in solid red, black, white or royal blue blouses, polos, button ups.
    • NO PATTERNED/PRINTS ARE ALLOWED.
    • Logos are permissible in the upper left or right breast pocket.
  • Students who wear cardigans or blazers need to be solid black.
  • Students may wear ties, suspenders and bow ties in red, royal blue, black or white. 
  • Conference t-shirts may not be worn during the conference.
    • If students are changing for the ride home, please do not have them enter back into the conference area or ballrooms after they have changed.
• Teacher Leaders and students should be wearing their name badge during the duration of the conference.
• By wearing the name badge, you are agreeing to adhering to the TAFE dress code.  There is no need to print and have dress code forms with you.

Technology:

• Please bring a computer, dongle to connect it to projectors, and a USB with all competition materials saved on to it. This will help if we run into technology issues on the day of your conference. 

Competitive Event Changes:

• You can drop or sub in students. The change event form will be located on your Area School Portal.
• MAKE SURE TO DROP YOUR STUDENTS IF THEY ARE NOT COMPETING!
• However, events with only one competitor cannot be substituted.
